As I get older I pay more and more attention to the mirror. I like what I see and I work hard to keep my skin looking fresh. Nowadays, I find myself browsing the beauty aisles in department stores, turning to the beauty pages of magazines and reading beauty related articles on the internet. I haven’t always been this way; in fact I went a few years using no skin care products whatsoever, apart from a moisturizer, as I felt soap and water did the job just fine. Actually, it’s not fine as the harsh weather conditions and the daily dirt and grime from the atmosphere really do play havoc with my skin. Over time I have come to realize that skin care products have been developed and designed to help keep our skin looking radiant and blemish free. There is only one conclusion for me and this is to find something that is suitable for your skin type and feels good – and then stick to it!
My basic skin-care regime
So, here is my basic skin care regime. When I wake up in the morning I start by splashing my face with lukewarm water. I pat it dry and then apply cleanser by rubbing it gently into my face with my fingertips, in small circles. I am careful to get into the areas at the side of my nose and am gentle around the eye area. I use a cotton wool ball to remove the cleanser. I use another cotton wool ball to apply the toner. I like to use quite a lot of toner and make sure that I go all around my face and neck in order to remove any remains of the cleanser. The toner makes my face feel fresh and my skin feels tightened up. Finally I apply the moisturizer and always use a generous amount as my skin tends to absorb it quickly.
I carry out a similar routine in the evenings as far as the cleansing and toning goes, but I don’t use a moisturizer at night. Instead, I apply organic beauty oil to my face, paying particular attention to areas where I know fine lines and wrinkles are present. My intention is to keep them at bay in the hope that they do not develop any further. When I am in a hurry and feel that I don’t have time to carry out my skincare routine, I just skip out the cleanser and apply the toner first. Sometimes I feel that this does the job just as good. However, I always make sure I use the moisturizer before I go out and my favorite has a SPF 30 in it.

However, this can prove costly unless you practice and follow a routine and take the time to do it yourself. I have been to the beauty salon in town and had facials which claim to be uplifting and rejuvenating. I am always amazed with the results, but only until the next day. I have also tried a course of non-surgical face lift treatments which had great short term results but again, very expensive to keep up with on a regular basis.
So my personal recommendation is to follow the advice of someone who knows because they have tried it. To keep your skin looking blemish free and radiant you need to use products designed to help you to do so. Don’t get confused by the massive choice available to you as it’s really quite simple. Keep your skin clean, prepared and protected. Do follow a skin care routine twice daily, as it only takes a couple of minutes of your time each day to reduce these visible signs by years. Do use lotions that suit your skin type as they will have the best desired effect. Most importantly, look at the ingredients that the lotions contain and be sure to use a facial serum which contains Vitamin C and Hyaluronic acid to combat visible aging.
